Hala Matar

Hala Matar is a Bahraini director. Her films are inspired by new wave French and Italian cinema. She plays with surrealism to delve into her characters’ psyche and doesn’t shy away from celebrating romanticism and glamour inherent in the golden age of Hollywood.

She has directed films for Vice, Nowness and for fashion brands including Louis Vuitton, CHANEL, Kenzo, Vivienne Westwood and Diesel. She has worked with a variety of talents such as: Kristen Stewart, Chloe Sevigny, Johnny Knoxville, Suki Waterhouse and Matthew Gray Gubler.

Her work has been featured in Rolling Stones, Pitchfork, Vogue, NME, Spin, NME, W Magazine, Nylon, CNN and Harpers Arabia. She is also the art curator for Dries Van Noten.
